Liking their photographic style is very important, but many times that is based upon reviewing just a few sample photographs which are only their best. Below are some questions that it is important to ask before you make your final choice of photographers. Getting the answers will help assure that your Bryan / College stations wedding photography and photos look as good as the samples. And just the way you want.
I have also included my answers for how we would photograph your wedding and our business.
What is your photographic style?
We combine traditional wedding portraiture with photojournalistic coverage. Before the ceremony, we photograph traditional formal posed images and incorporate some more modern looks. During the ceremony, we photograph “in the wings” out of respect for the venue and the moment between the bride and groom. We also capture the flavor of the whole day including detail shots, candid moments, and planned events. This is the bride’s day; we focus our primary attention on her.
How many photographers will be at my wedding?
Our standard is to provide two photographers at a wedding. This provides better coverage of the event, and meets our standard for redundancy.
How many weddings have you photographed?
We have photographed over 50 weddings since 2005.
Can we see all of the images of a complete wedding so we’ll know what to expect.
We would be more happy to show you a complete wedding in addition to our portfolio. We will show your our faves—our “showcase” pieces. We will also show you the memories we “saved”; we take pride in the fact that we get good images even in difficult situations.
What do you do in case of emergencies? What if the photographer is ill? Do they have backup equipment?
Weddings don’t have a reset button. As professionals, we build redundancy into everything we do and have. Our standard is to schedule two photographers at each wedding, both of whom are quite capable of photographing the event alone. In addition, we have close working relationships with many of the better professional photographers in the area. Each photographer is equipped with two professional model camera bodies, multiple lenses and flashes, and enough batteries and memory to get through two weddings.
Are you insured?
Yes. As members of the Professional Photographers of America, our images and our work is insured for your event.
How do you dress?
Each wedding is different. The last thing we want is to stand out. We will discuss your desires and dress appropriately for the occasion.
Can we get all the images on CD or DVD?
Absolutely. High quality digital files are available.
To a lot of brides, the images from their wedding are very important. The images and or album are what you have to look back on in the future. These should show the radiant bride in her wedding dress. The details of shoes, jewelry, and significant keepsakes. Flowers, place settings, and the venue should be shown to capture the essence of the wedding. The images of wedding party are very treasured. As life moves on you might not see some of them for varying periods of time. The guest and relatives images can also be very treasured. This day in your life can never be recreated, but can be remembered and shared with the images captured that day. A photographer that can capture all of this, while looking out for spontaneous expressions and happenings is to be treasured. The photographer should know what angles and poses are the most flattering for you and your guest. The photographer that can do all this had a lot of training and workshops to learn all of this. They did not just pick up a good camera and start shooting.
A lot of us photographers wish we didn’t have to worry about business, marketing, taxes, insurance and all of that. We wish we could just enjoy meeting the people and the art of photography. Alas, if we did not do all this and much more, we would not last long enough to be at your wedding. We need to make a profit, yes, that ugly word profit so we can be here today, tomorrow and in the future.
Consider this, you give the photographer a retainer, usually half the price of the wedding at the time of booking maybe months before the wedding. The other half is paid before the wedding. Don’t you want someone that you can trust to be there and deliver what they promised? I have heard more than one story of images and albums never delivered and the photographer nowhere to be found. I have heard of them disappearing before the wedding and the bride scrambling to find a good photographer at the last minute, but with limited choices and a big hole in the budget. Good albums are expensive to print and take a lot of time to prepare them. What if the photographer does not have enough money left to print the album? This has happened. Try googling wedding photographer horror stories.
A good business person will give everything promised and more to make you a happy customer. Happy customers bring in more business. The photographer is probably being watched by other brides to be, while photographing your wedding. The photographer is going to give great service at the wedding and after. The photographer is going to dress and behave appropriately. The photographer is going to be respectful of the guest.
The business person / photographer is going to invest in good equipment and know how to use it. They will also have backup equipment in case something breaks. They know they must produce good images under all conditions and no excuses allowed. They will probably belong to professional organizations such as Professional Photographers of America, or PPA for short. These organizations offer many things for the professional, continuing education, business advice and networking with photographer all over the nation.
So, do you want just a photographer that might be good or do you want a photographer with a well run business to do your wedding?
